Eating out, the money drain in our urban lifestyle

The urban lifestyle is inherently consumerist in nature. It is designed to make you spend your hard earned money on stuff which may or may not be good for you. The findings from a recent survey carried out in show how the young urban Indian middle class is just spending money out of ignorance in the name of living the modern life.

From the survey it is apparent that a typical household in Rs 20-30,000 monthly income group is spending close to 10% of their earnings on eating out. One does not realize, but a months salary earned during the year is spent on eating out. One of the 12 months spent in jobs typically hated by many goes towards funding the eating out expenses. The survey also indicates that the trend of eating is surely becoming more prevalent.

While I surely don't recommend that you live a morose life, missing out the good times with your friends etc. However, I surely do recommend awareness. Awareness of what eating does to your finances, not to mention your health. Awareness will bring a balance between your desire to eat out and its financial implications.
