Discount deal sites are emerging but not sure if they do real good

I am not sure if many would have heard about Snap Deal, Koovs or Taggle. I too have been introduced to these websites recently. These websites though not too popular could become mainstream e-commerce sites in the near future. In simple terms these sites provide eye popping deals and discounts on purchases. For e.g. you could go to one of these websites and buy a buffet meal in good restaurant at  fourty, fifty or even sixty percent discounts. A wallet claimed to be worth five thousand bucks could be yours in less than a thousand bucks. All you need is to buy a discount coupon on these sites for say twenty five or fifty bucks and the deal is yours. And yes no one is cheating you on these sites. Sounds amazing, yet this true. While it is true, is it really good, I am not too sure.

Snap Deal, Koovs or Taggle typically provide discount deals for activities related to entertainment, apparel and items related to gifting. I would say the deals are not realted to typical necessities of life, more to do with lifestyle expenses. Though some deals related to cosmetic medical care is available, like teeth cleaning etc.

What got me thinking about these discounts sites is that even though they provide excellent discounts and deals, they lead you to expenses which one would have never done in the first place. I got to know about these sites from someone in my social circle who when to these site and ended up buying close to Rs 5,000 worth of stuff which was neither needed nor had he planned to buy. The discounts were impulses which lead him to buy stuff like accessories, deals with doctors and meals at restaurants. After he had utilized these amazing deals he was left wondering what led him to buy stuff worth Rs 5,000, the stuff he never required.

Deals and discounts whether through discount websites like Snap Deal, Koovs or Taggle or in the real world via Diwali and Dusshera sales are meant to create impulses for us to buy stuff which may not be a necessity.

One needs to be wise enough to understand what deals can do to us. Having a very strong budget which guides us in our day to day decisions will be a useful tool to help us spend wisely and use the deals to our benefit and avoid wasteful expenditure.

Please note: This post is a discussion around our buying behavior at discount sites like Snap Deal, Koovs or Taggle and not an endorsement of these websites.
